Applied Technology Course in the Dynamic Distribution LabWednesday, June 8, 2005 - Thursday, June 9, 2005Track: AllPresented By:
The Companies of the Dynamic Distribution Lab Session Abstract:DBM’s Dynamic Distribution Lab is a hands-on, integrated warehouse designed and built specifically for each conference. Unlike “typical trade shows”, DBM actually builds a simulated warehouse with the assistance of a warehouse planner, where you can literally, “kick the tires” of warehousing equipment. Within this working exhibit, you can see and feel how each individual piece works to improve your facility, and more importantly, see how the individual pieces work together to provide even greater value. The DBM Conference’s Applied Technology Course is held in the Dynamic Distribution Lab. This course is divided into sections and hosted in different functional areas of the Lab. The courses are educational (not sales pitches) designed to provide application and justification training in the various technologies demonstrated. They give you a better understanding of today’s technology, and a glimpse at the future, to help you increase productivity and efficiency. The courses use the equipment and services in the Dynamic Distribution Lab as they function in the real world – allowing you to get up close and personal. The sections in the 2005 Dynamic Distribution Lab are:Receiving and Storing:This section includes Printing, Scanning, Auto ID/RFID, Lift Trucks, and associated racks, mezzanines, etc. It will show you ways to improve the first step in the warehousing/ distribution operation including: the use of RFID to expedite receiving and logging of storage information, the use of various lift trucks for different types of operations, streamlining document flow and integration of these technologies to create a smooth receiving operation. Picking and Replenishment:This section highlights the use of Voice Recognition Technology, Carousels, Carton and Pallet Flow Rack, Bin Shelving, Conveyor and Conveyor Controls, Auto Dispensing, Order-Picking Trucks, Printing, Scanning and Auto ID/RFID. By far, this section features the backbone of the warehousing/distribution operation. Effective use of equipment and systems in Picking and Replenishment can make or break a warehousing/distribution operation. This course will show attendees storage options and systems to improve flow of goods – and the bottom line! Consolidation and Packing:This section features Inkjet printing and RFID Tagging, Returnable Packaging, Put Systems, Scanning, and associated storage equipment. The efficient use of space and materials is one key to effective distribution operations today, with another being effective, low-error packing systems. Attendees will see, and learn, about ways to optimize their overhead while minimizing packing errors. Shipping:A good distribution center is only as good as getting product out the door. This section includes Stretch Wrappers, Auto ID/RFID, Lift Trucks, Auto Truck Loading, Pallet Stackers, Printing and Pallets, and Racks. Learn how these products work together, to ensure secure accurate pallet load shipping. Warehouse Services:The warehouse services section includes WMS Systems, Battery Handling, High Speed Doors, Maintenance Services, Personnel and Recruitment. Having the right system and peripherals can make or break a warehousing/distribution operation. Learn how to pick the right warehousing system software, the importance of proper battery handling and use, the benefits of high speed doors, and how to locate and hire the finest warehousing personnel that “best-fit” your company.
